The Cut, the site that gave us not one but two viral videos depicting iconic beauty trends in the United States over the last century, is back with a mesmerizing clip capturing the evolution of beauty in Korea in the last 100 years.

 While the ever-changing face of beauty trends is interesting everywhere, this latest installment is particularly fascinating because of the schism that occurs in the 1950s, when the country split into North and South Korea.

While South Korea began to replicate Western beauty trends, North Korea's beauty ideal became increasingly militant and austere. Which look do you prefer?
